The amazing BEST IN SHOW in Thailand

French Bulldog Club of Thailand and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of Thailand hosted a dog show in Bangkok in the past weekend. We were very proud of the following judges:

Mr.Andrew H Brace (England)
Mr.Francesco Cochetti (Italy)
Mr.An Sae Hyun (Korea)
Dr.Jose F.Mendiola (Philippines)
Mr.Martin Riady (Indonesia)
Mr.Noranart Rattanasakvibool (Thailand)

The show went well. There were amazing results in the Best in Show round. After the dogs have won the Best in Group of each round of each day, they will compete in the Best in Show and the Local Bred Best in Show on the final day. There are a total of three Best in Show and three Local Bred Best in Show.

While the first judge was judging the first Local Bred Best in Show, the other 5 judges would be invited to stay in another room on another floor. They would be invited down when it was their turn to judge. Therefore, each judge did not know which dog the earlier judge picked.

The atmosphere between each show and judging were full of excitement, like any other Best in Show. What was amazing was that all 6 judges picked the locally bred Pekingese for both the Locally Bred Best in Show and Best in Show, in every round.

The pekingese is a male named "Khan Kluay" bred and owned by Mr. Suwan Ngamsiriwong.

The excitement and the pride still lingers in the heart of the breeder and in my heart , even until today. I am certain that there won't be too many opportunities to see one dog, one owner, on one podium with all the judges carrying the trophies of Best in Show and Locally Bred Best in Show. I am very proud of the dog and the breeder/owner.

Mr. Andrew Brace, a very famous English judge, a columnist for many dog magazines in UK, the USA, and Canada, and will be a judge for the Pomeranian Specialty at the Westminster Dog Show in 2010, was one of the judge who picked this peckingese as the Best in Show, kindly wrote a critique for the amazing dog, and the wonderful owner/breeder:

When I first set eyes on this glamorous red dog I tried not to get too excited as all too often the dogs that look this great disappoint on the table.
To my eternal joy he handled as well as he looked! He is perfect size, has a wide open shallow face with large lustrous eyes, large nose and good underjaw, he has heavy bone, is firm at the elbow, has great spring of rib and true Pekingese body shape with defined waist and he stands so soundly on all four legs.
His movement is a thrill as here is a Pekingese that moves like a Pekingese should - absolutely sound and with the correct characteristic roll for the breed, carrying himself with great dignity and with tail set bang on top. Furthermore he has a handler who has the sense to move at the correct speed for the breed - not racing around the ring.
He has a quality coat of correct texture that was perfectly groomed.
Today he went around the big ring SIX times and never tired which proves how sound, healthy and energetic the breed can be.
This breed I first judged in 1977 at Championship shows in UK. This dog is one of the best I have ever judged (all over the world) and would be a GREAT Champion in any country today.
He made my trip worthwhile and I was so thrilled when he won all three BIS and all three Locally Bred BIS. He is a very special Pekingese and I hope his lucky owner breeder realises what a great dog he has. He will probably never get another like this as this quality happens only once in a lifetime!
ANDREW H. BRACE

And Francesco Cochetti, another honourable judge, a famous breeder from Misty Meadow, Italy, a very respected group judge, and president of Rome Kennel Club, was also another judge who felt that this peckingese was an amazing locally bred dog. So he too wrote a critique for Khan Kluay:

The Pekingese I awarded BIS was a really superb dog that can compete all over the world. He has a fantastic sound construction, so difficult to find now a days in this breed. Excellent head and expression with a very good underjaw. Excellent topline and tailset and he moves like a dream, like this breed should move, but now a days not easy to see a typical movement in this breed anymore. His coat quality is excellent. He has been show in super conditions and has been trimmed very well. A dog to die for that you would like to have at home and to see in the European rings.Francesco Cochetti

Martin Riady, a judge with talented eyes from Indonesia who also picked Khan Kluay as the BIS, kindly wrote a critique for the same occasion.

My BLBIS winner is an amazing little "Lion" pekingese who still moves enthusiastically even after being shown non-stop for 2 full days. When he was presented in my line up of BLBIS by the evening and he still moves
spiritedly I was stunned to his stamina which proves his soundness. He is
equipped with an excellent conformation; a correct head with nice expression and details, a sound body construction front & rear, an excellent coat and was presented with perfection by the handler. It was my pleasure to have awarded him the Best Locally Bred In Show.

This breed takes more grooming time than almost any other breed -
It means his owner/breeder must take very very good care of Khan Kluay. So he deserves what he got.

And you,Joom, I know you put alot of time and effort into this show, and I am very
happy that it went well and that you are pleased also.

Great show, great dog, great breeder, great results. 6 BEST IN SHOW!!!!!! So amazed!!!!

I am very pleased that a locally-bred Peke did so well! I also I had to hold back my tears while reading the touching story.

I saw you had some great judges in the show. So the 6 BEST IN SHOW were so special for the superb peckingese!!!

Some time ago I did a bit of research on this breed, which is of
course a Chinese breed. If it weren't for the wife of a British
diplomat who brought several Pekes to U.K., it would have
completely disappeared: these dogs were kept by the
Emperors in the palace. When that communist Mao took
over the country, he ordered all dogs to be killed. So only
those ancient Chinese breeds like Pekes, Shih Tzus,
Chow Chows and Tibetan Mastiffs were saved by some
British people. Now an English great judge came across the oceans to pick the wonderful Pekingese!!

Way to go Khan Kluay & Suwan Ngamsiriwong.!!!

Thanks Joom for sharing this glamorous moment to us.

It's more than dream comes true for this Pek and the owner/breeder. I remember you mentioned this pek to me sometimes ago. You said the pek is wonderful but it was hard for him to get any big wins in Thailand becuase of the political issue. That time I was so sad.

Now you opened the door!! Khan kluay and his breeder came across the door prudly!!!

Way to go Khan kluay and Suwan!!! Many wins awaiting for you aroud the world. Westminter 2010 should be your next big step.!!! I believe!!

I am really proud of you for putting on an "honest" show: I think you ought to get a special
prize for this!

When I read your blog with the judges' comments, you know, I felt so happy, just as if it
were my own dog that had won!

So happy! Really happy!
